PRE-PROCEDURE
INDICATIONS
  • Ductal cancer in situ (DCIS)
  • Invasive ductal carcinoma
  • Small phyllodes sarcoma
CONTRAINDICATIONS
  • Breast cancer or sarcoma > 4 cm
EQUIPMENT
  • Mix of short- and long-acting local anesthetic
  • Scalpel or electrocautery
  • Appendiceal retractors

POST-PROCEDURE
CARE
  • Use a sports bra to stabilize the breast for at least the first 48 hours.
COMPLICATIONS
  • Neurapraxia or neuralgia of the axillary or radial nerve
  • Hematomas
  • Blisters from Steri-Strips (associated scarring)
  • Failure to detect a lesion
